Red Lips

So, what’s the saying? “If you can’t beat em, join em! Well, I’m late to the party but I’ve decided to start wearing red lipstick on occasion. I like the way it looks on other women so I figured I would give it a go. My grandmother use to wear it so I associated it with older women for awhile and I couldn’t stand seeing it on women’s teeth when they smiled or lip marks on their glasses they were drinking from so it scared me. I think my fears have officially subsided. So, here goes nothing …..:) I went to Mac a couple days ago and asked the girl to help me pick out a red that went well with my skin tones. I believe that is half the battle picking an appropriate red because not every red looks good on every person, capiche? I played in the reds for a few minutes when finalizing my decision on a classic red called “Russian Red” and a lip liner called “Kiss Me Quickly”! Loves it! I think the lip liner is the other key component to wearing red lipsticks otherwise they can appear to be applied sloppily. The liner acts as a guideline as well as it keeps the lipstick from bleeding. Its like when you were a kid and you use to color and your mother said, “Stay inside the lines”. Same applies here! If your feeling like you need some change and your not already wearing red lipstick then you may want to walk on the wild side and give it a try!

  1. Very sexy with red lipstick – nice color.

  2. You, my dear, are brave and beautiful!! I have tried red on my lips and I always end up cleaning it off and going with my normal soft glosses, pinks, or dark/nudes. You pull off the red very nicely! I like the look of red lips (I.E.Kourtney kardashian) but I cant seem to pull it off myself! And I have Dark Dark Brown hair, which I think is a perfect match for red! Maybe I’ll ask for some help, per your advice, if I ever venture for lucious red lips again! ~ J.

    • I have worn natural lips my whole life! Venturing out meant a baby pink at most but I’ve been admiring red for quite some time and said the hell with it! I love it! Its not for everyday but definitely certain outfits. If you pick the right red for your skin tones I think you will feel differently about wearing red. I tried a few reds prior to this one and I felt like a clown and they came off as quick as they went on. Try going to a department store or any cosmetic store and have them help match up a red for for you !

      • I will be asking for some help! Thanks for the inspiration! My usual purchases for my lips include Nars, Bobbi Brown, or a few shades of YSL that I get at Nordstrom.. But I also LOVE Sephora! I go nuts in there! I haven’t been to MAC in forever. I guess because when I think of MAC, I think of make-up, and I really don’t wear make-up. Just Lip-gloss & mascara, which I get at Sephora b/c they have the ‘Two-Faced’ mascara which is stellar, and a million lip glosses! I think I’ll try MAC if I get the ‘red-fever’ (ha, my last name is Le-fever, hence the red-fever..I’m a dork) Thanks for the advice Pretty Girl! ~ Jen

        • Your a riot! :}~
I love all makeup and I wish I could get away with not wearing makeup but I don’t have the skin for that! I could spend hours and thousands in sephora its a girls dream makeup box!

          • :0 I’m telling you.. this is serious!! My husband makes fun of me b/c I don’t know how to put eye shadow on right. I look like a freakin racoon when I try to do smoky eyes! I’m a grown woman who is seriously challenged in the make-up dept. Not right.. Maybe MAC can help with that too! Sheesh.. And yes! Sephora… I’m like a kid in a candy store in there.. even more so b/c I don’t know how to use half the stuff in there! HA!! ~J

  3. Red is really nice. Deep red suits me. Unfortunately for me, pinks and oranges does not look good on my lips. =<

    • Yea, I had a problem finding the right red for myself. Maybe you have to try different shades of pink to find one that work I bet there is one that works for you even if its a deep magenta.
